R. v. T.C.
R. v. T.C.
(Red Deer, P.C.). Client was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. The case against TC was relatively strong. In 2012 the Federal Government continued its war on drugs by changing the sentencing regime for PPT cocaine by eliminating the conditional sentence order (CS)) option. In this case, the accused was able to avail himself of the benefit of a CSO because the allegations arose prior to the Criminal Code amendments. When defending a case, every accused must engage a difficult cost-benefit analysis. Sometimes resolution offers are favourable. Sometimes the risk at trial is too high. Sometimes the client cannot afford legal fees or must determine whether the legal fees justify the cost of proceeding to a costly trial. Reputable Calgary drug lawyers will assist every client in navigating these dynamics.
