R. v. G.W.
R. v. G.W.
(Calgary Q.B.) Home invasion and firearm charges were stayed by the Crown. There were witness issues and a Charter Notice filed by the accused. Courts across Canada, including the Alberta Court of Appeal have established some of the harshest starting point sentence for home invasion. In Alberta, the starting point is 8 years in jail. In this case, GW was accused of an aggravated home invasion, because it was alleged to have been committed with a firearm. The defence had to deal with a dog track that ultimately resulted in the accused being assaulted by a police canine. If you have been charged with a home invasion, it is imperative that you consult with a serious Calgary defence lawyer. If you are looking at 8 years behind bars, not any defence lawyer will do.
