R. v. D.M.M.

(Calgary Court of Justice - Animal Protection Act). DMM was charged with various offences under the Animal Protection Act. This Calgary defence lawyer closely scrutinizes all APA cases for a reasonable and valid defence. While DMM's management of the animals may not have been perfect, there is little doubt that it was a well intended best effort in difficult circumstances.

DMM pled not guilty and scheduled the case for trial. The trial was scheduled for several days. Prior to trial, the defence had done all it could to bring a peaceful resolution to the charges, but unfortunately, there was no option but to schedule DMM for trial. On the day of trial, all charges were withdrawn. The Crown took a close look at the case and was of the view that based on the available evidence, there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

Although David Chow is most often retained for criminal law and roadside sanctions cases, he often handles Regulatory Prosecutions that have a criminal law connection. David will closely scrutinize and screen the regulatory allegations to determine whether the regulatory matter is something that he is prepared to accept. David often handles Prosecutions under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and occasionally under the Animal Protection Act (APA).  Due to the extensive trial court experience of many Calgary criminal lawyers, they are often well suited to defend regulatory prosecutions. David Chow will quickly triage regulatory issues for the purpose of determining whether (1) it the kind of case that he can more than competently handle and (2) whether he has sufficient time in his schedule to defend a regulatory case. David Chow runs a boutique criminal law practice, where he only accepts retainer for cases after properly evaluating the time, space and resources of his annual caseload.
